Ocean-Bathing with Orca @ the Mouth of Discovery, BC
Its well pronounced breathing startled me from my oasis recline
To alert-toes, soon ankle deep in ocean-pebble
My eyes scan from ocean shore to horizon
Holding patient breath
Anticipating its wild resurfacing
Until WE let go of our silence
In breath together —
A mighty *GASP* as Earth Allies sharing fresh air and wild freedom
Its dorsal fin arches between worlds
To mingle for a brief, magical moment
And I, awestruck at high-tide
Greet A4 pod and Northern Residents: Orcinus Orca
In neighbourhood estuary and mouth of chance Discovery Channel
As I ocean-bathe in this fresh place of arrival
I distinguish this pod’s Matriarch as light-bringer and messenger for our shared primal purpose
Her stirring wind deepens how I listen and laugh
Melting my ego as the sky cycles cirrus through cumulous grey
Shaken by Mother Earth’s patience to survive
I “gnome” my only surviving care is for connection
I am grateful to find this permission to practice hope
And celebrate the rewilding of our whole natural world!
